How to Choose a Product Photographer

How to Choose a Product Photographer? Make sure their photography style matches your brand’s vision. Look at their previous work and pay attention to the quality, creativity, and variety of their photos. Don’t worry if you don’t see images of the exact same product your brand offers. If your product is difficult to photograph — like those with a lot of reflections — check whether the photographer has experience with similar items.

For example, as a product photographer, after shooting knives, I’m no longer afraid of any product that reflects everything around it.

When it comes to Instagram, photographers usually post images that fit their feed and personal brand. There are hundreds of other photos you’ll never see that are stored in their content bank, so it’s crucial to message them and see if they can create what you’re looking for.

It’s important that the photographer understands your needs and is easy to communicate with. Explain your requirements and deadlines to the photographer. Personally, to simplify communication, I offer my clients a questionnaire.

Once you fill it out in detail, I’ll send you a quote. Depending on your preferences, we can have a call or a meeting to discuss all the details. I’ll present my ideas, and once you approve them, I start working.

Make sure you have a clear budget in mind. Also consider additional expenses like a model, a studio for lifestyle photos, and props for the shoots. Every project is different, which is why many photographers don’t list fixed prices on their websites.

Additionally, clarify what you need the photos for. Content solely for social media can be cheaper compared to a large poster, which requires a different usage license.

Make sure to have a clear contract. A well-defined contract protects both the client and the photographer, ensuring both parties are aligned on expectations and responsibilities.

The photographer’s personality also matters. Follow them on social media for a while. See if their values align with yours. This will help you feel comfortable and on the same page when working together.

Choosing the right product photographer can take your images to another level and make your products stand out in the market.

Make your choice carefully, and you’ll see amazing results!
